End Slavery

Our Club is passionate about ending slavery!

Picture
Slavery, or more specifically, working to raise awareness of Modern Day Slavery and where possible to do something to stop it, has been a strong interest of our Club in recent years.

Whether it is bonded labour, the kidnapping of girls for prostitution, children and adults forced to work in factories or domestic work, it is slavery in one form or another.  Then of course there is global supply chains that source food, clothes, technology products etc from suppliers who exploit their workers because they have no other options.

This is what we're doing...

Banchara Girls Project
Our Club recently donated $3,175 to partly fund a project that will take 50 girls out of the sex trade industry in the notorious Banchara area in India where there is a deplorable cultural practice of parents facilitating their daughters into prostitution in order to support the family.  This project will provide education and training for the girls.

MAITI Nepal Project
Two of our Club members alerted the club to the plight of girls in Nepal and explained how Maiti Nepal works to protect Nepali girls and women from crimes like domestic violence, trafficking for flesh trade, child prostitution and child labor.

Club members were astounded at the extent of this problem and were impressed with Maiti's approach to the problem and their success rate with implementing workable solutions.

Our Club has donated both to Maiti Nepal and to general Nepal reconstruction funding after the 2015 earthquake.

Slavery Forum
A key aspect of dealing with slavery is the need to educate people about the extent of Modern Day Slavery. Most people are unaware of problems experienced by the women in Nepal or by those trapped by decent based slavery so our Club has organised forums where these issues are discussed.
