Local Community
Working in our local communityWhitehorse Men's Shed
Our Club played a key role in the establishment of the Whitehorse Men's Shed in August 2006 at the Box Hill Community Arts Centre. The Shed is managed by Carrington Health and our Club maintains an involvement, providing an annual donation to purchase equipment or pay for the volunteers to attend seminars etc. The Shed was soon too big for the Box Hill Community Arts Centre and NADRASCA kindly provided fabulous accommodation at their High Street property in Nunawading. With much support from Carrington Health and local Rotary Clubs, the Shed has gone from strength to strength. It now operates on 3 days per week and caters for 10-12 men each day.
Men's Sheds are a uniquely Australian concept with over 500 Sheds around the country. The Shed is a place for men to be in a supportive social environment where they have purpose and value.

Dinner Tonight
As well as an annual donation of $2,500, our Club volunteers at New Hope Community Care in Blackburn which serves Saturday night dinner to over 100 local disadvantaged and homeless persons. While they come to enjoy the meal, many also find friendship through this weekly get-together. We do this on 3 occasions each year and Club members arrange the tables and chairs in the hall for the evening meal, set the tables and then help serve the meal.

Mitcham Primary School
We were approached by Mitcham Primary School some years ago to solve a problem they were having with newly arrived refugee children - they couldn't swim and their parents were unable to pay for the lessons. Many of the refugee children had never seen the sea and had never had a need to learn to swim and lacked even the most basic water safety skills. Our Club was able to provide funds for these children so that they could enjoy a visit to school with their new school mates.

Shine On Awards
Our Club is a passionate supporter of the Shine On Awards. First presented in Brisbane in 1993, these annual awards recognise outstanding community service by persons with any disability – chronic, physical, intellectual or mental health disorder. Nominees and their families are invited to the ceremony, where a Guest Speaker/s is invited as well as local Mayor, state and federal MP’s, media and a professional Photographer attend. Citations are read and presentations made by District Governors. Each nominee receives a certificate and/or trophy and afternoon tea is provided.
