Wings of Hope Lanka (WOHL) was established in 2013 by Rebecca Alexander, and partnered with Mukti Australia in 2016. Rebecca is WOHL Chief Operating Officer. WOHL invests in the lives of over 200 children and their families living in the tea plantations in central Sri Lanka, and an urban slum community in Colombo. Children sponsored by Mukti Australia receive access to tuition, educational supplies, and access to basic health care and nutrition. Young adults receive skills training and vocational support. Parents, particularly the mothers, receive skills training, income generation opportunities, workshops on parenting, family planning, child protection and rights awareness. WOHL also seeks to improve the living conditions and housing of families. In times of disaster, they seek to offer relief such as food rations and emergency housing. RCBHC with WeCan'tWait have supported improved household latrines for the tea garden families. A thanksgivng response after Cyclone Ditwah. Rotarians for Bees is a group of Rotarians from a variety of Rotary Clubs who are very worried about the dangerous decline in bee (& other pollinator) populations worldwide & are taking action to help reverse this trend.
Without bees and other pollinators much of the world’s food supply would end so it’s literally a matter of life and death that these essential tiny links in our global food chain are supported and with Rotary’s global reach we can do something to help! Rotary Canterbury is one of the founding Clubs and is proud to auspice this ESRAG (Environmental Sustainability Rotarian Action Group) project.

The presentation gives an overview of Mercy Ships, the hospital ships, the countries we serve, and the life changing surgical care and medical training provided in partnership with host nations. I also share a few powerful patient stories, which help bring the work to life and show the lasting impact of safe surgery. Samantha Clarke is an Ambassador for Mercy Ships Australia, with a career shaped by people, storytelling and service. She began her working life as a hairdresser, learning the power of listening and human connection, before later working in high level government and community building roles. Today, Samantha brings that same warmth and practical focus to her work with Mercy Ships, helping Australians connect with the life changing impact of safe surgery and medical training in Africa. She is passionate about making change feel personal, human and possible. Chair: Brian Martin. Desk: Malcolm Chiverton & Julian Badenach. Hybrid: Tony Stokes
