Our Environmental Committee team held their final catch up for 2025 over a lunch hosted by member Julian and his wife Jess.

Great conversation over a delicious lunch using ingredients harvested from their kitchen garden made for an enjoyable meeting.

Members were also treated to a tour of the organic home garden before sitting down to lunch which included dishes inspired by the available seasonal produce including home grown parsnips, broad beans, radicchio, garlic, brown onion, chives and herbs and cured kalamata olives

Our heartfelt thanks go to Julian and Jessica for generously opening their home and hosting the team with such warmth and hospitality.

The atmosphere of friendship, inspiration, and shared purpose made the gathering truly memorable and luckily the weather turned out to be just delightful.

At present, several of our environmental initiatives are progressing well:

HealthAbility (HA) Community Shed Garden
Since the approval of our Rotary District Grant, the Community Shed Garden project has been steadily moving forward. The removal of part of the fence required some adjustments to the layout and materials, but HA Shed Manager Stewart Blair is confident that these changes will not significantly impact the project. Site preparation work has been completed, and the first garden bed has been built.  Further steady progress is expected in the lead up to Christmas.

Nunawading Community Gardens Shelter Refurbishment
After September Board meeting, discussions with an NCG committee member and a local tradesperson have identified that only one section of the roof required replacement. A fair proposal to replace the laserlite roofing, repair the rafter, and repaint the timber structure has been accepted. Work commenced last week, with completion expected during the first week of December.
