Women in Rotary
Background
Although there was a time when women were not able to be members of Rotary, that time is long past and women are now a vital part of Rotary membership. The History of Women in Rotary is well documented and there are now over 200,000 women Rotarians and women routinely serve in leadership positions as high as the RI Board of Directors and The Rotary Foundation Board of Trustees. Women around the world are a major focus of Rotary's work. Projects relating to women's health, maternal care, educating girls, children's diseases as well as slavery and trafficking of women all feature highly in Rotary International's priorities. |
Women in Box Hill Central Rotary Club
Box Hill Central Club was chartered in 1990, shortly after the decision to allow women to become Rotarians. The Club started with six women at a time when other local Clubs had none at all - a very news worth event. Since that time women have always been an integral part of the Club, serving with distinction at all levels of Club management and the first woman district governor also came from the Club. It is significant that a key focus of the Club has been to address the plight of women around the world by supporting the education of girls and supporting maternal health. |
