Well done Mark Balla and Operation Toilets team!
"Announcing our Global Grant GG2570073 has now been submitted to The Rotary Foundation! This project started as an idea around seven years ago when I (Mark), first visited the amazing community of Piplantri in Rajasthan. We were stopped in our tracks by Covid but the conversation with the community continued.
I returned to Piplantri in December 2023 with representatives of a number of Rajasthani Rotary Clubs. We spent the day with senior members of the community, visiting schools, speaking with school principals, teachers, students and parents. The end result was a decision to work with the community to develop a project that would fit their needs and wishes. Our partner club in India is the Rotary Club of Udaipur Meera, one of the oldest and largest all female Rotary Clubs in the world. They are a club with a deep passion for a commitment to the welfare of women and children. As you can imagine, we are very happy to be working with such an inspiring club.
We have support from thirteen Rotary clubs in Australia, the USA and India. We also have support from a foundation here in Australia, an interested party in the Czech Republic (listed as a non Rotarian donor), two districts in Australia, one district in the USA and one district in India. Many other clubs, businesses and individuals that are not named in the application have already donated directly to Operation Toilets for this project."
RCBHC has committed $US13,725 and D9815 $US12,000 for total budget $US88,423.
- "The main objectives of the project is converting rural schools into Happy Schools with gender segregated toilets. We will be conducting minor civil repairs of the schools, paint the schools in bright colours, provide appropriate desks for the students and tables and chairs for the teachers, provide educational and sports equipment, construct toilets and handwash stations in seven schools in villages governed by the Piplantri village council. (Piplantri, Rajahstan, India)"
