Conversations continuing with Community Employment Partnerships & Whitehorse Cluster Rotary Clubs.

Did you know that people with intellectual disability are one of the most underemployed groups of people in Australia with only 16% employed in the open market? Often people with an intellectual disability are in a permanent cycle of job training, job courses and work experience without these experiences ever leading to meaningful employment The Rotary Community Employment Partnership is changing attitudes and building opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities to work in mainstream employment - real work, for real pay. You can help by introducing the project to business owners in your network and inviting them to have a conversation with Jenny or Pat from Belonging Matters, our project partners. You might think about your business networks and the businesses you connect with everyday e.g., the local café, local nursery, mechanic or even your hairdresser etc. You could even discuss the idea with your family, friends, and neighbours! For some ideas and tips, head to the project website, www.communityemploymentpartnership.org

ActYourPurpose - Whitehorse Pilot  from Community Service Director Malcolm

A Whitehorse education project for global understanding and personal purpose in collaboration with International Needs Australia has been approved for payment $4,850 at the August Board Meeting.

The ActYourPurpose-Whitehorse pilot will help Whitehorse youth:

  • Develop an increased sense of personal purpose and social justice awareness

  • Increase awareness of global poverty through the JustLikeMe program for primary schools

  • Optional spinoff activity - Increase literacy levels through participation in

    ActYourPurpose/JustLikeMe + Read4Purpose program

  • Contribute key reading resources to participating schools

‘Through the Act Your Purpose - Whitehorse program, we can empower Whitehorse youth to be the next generation of global citizens to make a positive impact on their world.'
